7 Easy steps to stop wishing your life away and book that trip!

Let’s face it, it is not easy for everybody to book a ticket and jump on a plane. There are so many factors keeping people from stopping to wish their life away and just go. Fear is the  number one factor. It is a lie that hides in our spirits and whispers that we will not be able to follow our dreams because we are not good enough, because our dreams are unrealistic or because it won’t work out for us. LIES THEY TELL! I see so many people wasting years talking about this new business, this new idea, this new project they are working on without ever taking action. My goal for this blog is to not only share my passion for life and traveling but to create a community of bold people who have the guts to follow their dreams with passion and drive! So, if you have been wanting to travel but never had the courage to do so, this post is for you! If you are sitting there scrolling through your feed thinking that everybody gets to travel and explore the world, this post is DEFINITELY for you.

So how can you go from wishing your life away to booking that trip in easy steps?

Make a list of all the reasons you want to go, then make a list of all the reasons you’ve waited this long. Make sure that what you write really comes from the heart and reflects your fears and passion. Don’t be ashamed of what might come out. Nobody will read it anyways. It is your moment to face your real demons and make a clean up on the inside.

After putting these 2 lists together, take a moment to decide if the reasons you did not go are really acceptable. Chances are, you were simply making excuses! You have a child? You might have someone you trust who could babysit for a week or two. You don’t have enough money? Hello…..most of us don’t. That’s why saving takes a little time and requires effort.  Instead of sitting on these excuses, write down a SOLUTION for each of them.

Congratulations! If you’ve made it this far, this means that you are on a good path. Step 3 is picking your destination. Think about the kind of experience you want to have and choose the destination that will help you reach that goal! If you are going to a country just because your fiends are going but you know you won’t have a great time, do NOT go. This is dangerous because it will not only make you waste time and money but it might also make you think that you do not like to travel which will only be a clouded judgment based on one bad experience.

Put deadlines on your planning! First, pick the date you want to leave. It is very important to know exactly where you want to go and in which period you want to go. Put a realistic deadline that will allow you enough time to save up money, do your research, get your visa if necessary. Put a deadline on each  step! make sure you know how much time the visa process takes so you apply on time, put a deadline for your pictures and for sending out forms. Set deadlines to book your hostels or hotels and even to pack your bags! (Yes I know, this last one is not always easy).

Have a plan! Money will not fall out of a tree. So find realistic ways to collect money. If you work, decide which % of your paycheck you will use to travel. You can also get some side jobs like babysitting, writing for blogs are newspapers, or by using any of your talents really to generate some revenue! You can sell some clothes. I am sure that there are so many things in your closet you do not need. Make some researches and learn more about how you can earn a few extra bucks from selling stuff you do not wear anymore and make some space in your closet! Put your change in a box. This! my friends is such a fun method. Whenever you get some change from buying at the supermarket or else, you can put it in a box and not count the money until you are ready to leave for your trip. I can’t count how many times I booked a trip without having the hostel, food and activities money available. I just knew that I would hustle until I could collect every penny and it worked!

Stay motivated! Do not give up. Stay motivated by reading blog stories about the destination, talk about it, share with people. This will help you stay motivated throughout the waiting process.

Believe that it is not as impossible as it seems and that YOU can make it happen. If people are doing it, it must be possible. Stop thinking that only a privileged few can make their dreams come true. Traveling is one of the best ways to learn and you too can embrace it only by making your researches and really setting your mind to it.
