Traveling is an incredible experience. However, it can easily turn into a disaster if you don’t plan certain things. When we plan our travels, we first think about the things we are going to bring with us, the places we are going to visit, the food we are going to try and we get all excited! But something is missing: Who are you taking with you?
As much as you love your friends, you just can’t go away with some of them. I am just trying to save the friendship here. When you travel with someone, there are a few important things to consider.
1) First of all, do you enjoy being alone with that person?
Let’s be honest. Some people are in our life because we have a friend in common. If you guys don’t have much to say when that common friend is not there, you can’t travel with them. Imagine how awkward it will be. “So…how’s school?” lol No, save yourself the trouble
2) Do they get your jokes?
If you are going to spend a week or two with that person you must be able to laugh together. If that person’s jokes annoy you, don’t think you will be able to stand it in another country. Also, if they never laugh at your jokes, don’t go away with them.
3) Complaining complaining…
Nothing more annoying than someone who is always complaining (about the heat, about the food, about the service, about the little butterfly that just passed by…) Before picking your travel partner, make sure that this person is ready to make the best out of any situation. You are surely going to have some disappointments during your trip, make sure your travel buddy will be able to laugh at them and enjoy the rest of the day.
4) Make sure you enjoy the same activities
Of course you won’t have the exact same tastes. But if you are ready for jet skies, exploring, don’t go away with someone who only wants to spend the days at museums. Yes it is important to compromise but you can’t be too extreme either. Your trip will be a pain and you will start to dislike that person you loved so much.
5) Last but not least, same values
This is an important point. Different values can be tolerated from a distance but if you are alone with that person, things can get heated up really fast. If you know that person is going to yell at all the waiters, make disrespectful comments about girls, say something bad about everybody, you clearly can’t go with them. It will get uncomfortable for both of you. Know your standards
Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section. Also, have you ever had a bad experience with a friend while traveling? I will be glad to hear from you.
